Upper left abdominal pain after eating

Please help me I am 27 years old I am overweight but appears to have no bearings on it. For about the last 8 weeks have had diarrhea one day all day then the next I am fine going to the bathroom the abdominal pain is all the time. Also after I eat the upper left side of my stomach feels like someone is stabbing me. Not to mention its gotten worse now because I feel the pain even if I dont eat. Also I am tired after doing any type of work and if I move around it starts to hurt too. The lower side of my pelvic areas hurt to,especially before and after bm. I know this sounds gross but I have had colonoscopy, CT scan, biopsy, ultrasounds and the doctors treat me like I am crazy but I am in pain. Please help if you have any idea.

Have they checked your pancreas? The pancreas can be really hard to diagnose. My symptoms were much like yours. Do you always feel the overwhelming urge to lay down?

Im 33 and underweight and have the same symptoms. i was diagnosed with food allergies to many foods. My stomach always hurts and has hurt DAILY for 6 years. I had an upper endoscopy and upper 2 barium xrays which showed reflux only. my upper and lower left side hurt. I get bloated only on that side and i can feel a small (like the size of a grape) ball in my lower left abdomen.

They have checked my pancreas many times, they still have no idea on to another specialist. I do always feel tired and like I need to lay down.

That is exactly what I feel and over the past few days it hurts when I breath, I am going to see another doctor I will post if I find anything.

I'm 26 years old and I've been in pain for 4 years, I have shortness of breath, when I breath my lower back hurts... I wake up every morning with pain in my stomack and my back, I'm always tired (without having done anything!) I don't feel like do anything... I forget things quickly and I always seem confused I have been crying almost every morning for the past 4 years! Now I'm depressed because nobody can figure out what is wrong with me. I have a 2 1/2 years child that I feel sorry for because I'm too tired to do anything with her... Every doctor thinks I'm crazy because I'm so young and it can't be anything bad! I 've had all the major tests done and nothing! They can't find anything!!!!I just got a new doc that is sending me to a urologist so I will let you all know what will happened.. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know!

When you say 'upper left' ab pain, do you mean your left, or upper left as someone is looking at you?I say this because health professionals would call your right (when you look down, the right side of your body, below your ribs) 'right' too.
If it is the right hand side, this is where your gallbladder, pancreas and so on are.Your liver is more towards your left.I was 30 when I started having symtoms very much like yours.I had been overweight since my early 20's, but had lost around 2 1/2 stone before the pain started.I started having stabbing pains on my right side, below my ribs, particularly after eating, as you are.I had two acute 'attacks' that were extrememly painful, making me sweat with pain, each lasting about 10 minutes max.I went to my GP who sent me for a ultrasound scan, and they told me I had hundrededs of little stones in my gall bladder.The acute attacks I described were stones passing through my bile duct.To cut a long strory short, it had to come out.The Dr said it was probably as result of a few factors - family history (firstly, several relations have had their gall bladders out because of stones at young ages; secondly, losing weight rapidly can sometimes precede gallstones and they don't know why this is; and finally, a poor, high fat diet is a big risk factor).It used to be very uncommon for people in their 20's and 30's to get gallstones - hence the saying 'fat, female and forty' in relation to gallstones; the Western diet has put paid to that.

I've been getting these pains as well. I am a very fit 26 yr old. I play hockey 4 times per week and workout 2-3 times per week. I eat very well and drink 2-3 liters of water per day.

Symptoms: Lower back hurts with deep breaths, Lower right behind pelvic bone hurts with full exhalation. upper left (under rib cage) hurts generally all the time and lower abdomen hurts constantly. Whenever I eat or drink I have a stomach gurgling for hours afterwards. My stools seem to be dark green, but nothing black or tarry. Burping feels nice, but I get a sharp pain in the stomach about 3 seconds after a burp that lasts for a few rough seconds. Man does that hurt... Tylenol helps sometimes with the pain. If I lay still and do not move it seems to ease the pain after an hour. I'm somewhat nausious, but have never thrown up. Pains started 2.5 weeks ago.

The pain was so bad on Friday that I went to emergency and they kept me for 3 nights. They said my Lipase (from the pancreas) levels were over 1600 (60 is normal for my age and body type). After being on the drip (no food) for 2 days it went down to 280 and yesterday it went to 74 and they released me. Unfortuneately the pain is still here and they have me on acid blockers (Pantoloc, Losec, etc.) telling me it's an ulcer and that the pain should subside in a few days.

I'm hoping this works. If there is no significant improvement the doctor told me to go back and see him. I'm assuming he's gonna give me an H. Pylori test and/or treatment at that point in time.

I'm steering away from this being a gallstone thing (as I did a gallbladder cleanse last year (only 4 days!) and passed 40 small gallstones not larger than 7.5 mm each. I've been very healthy since, but this by no means makes it concrete that this isn't a gallstone issue.

Please post if you guys have remedied these symptoms and I'll promise to do the same... this is the worst pain to have daily and I can't imagine having it for years like some of you have. Ask your doctor for an H. Pylori test. My grandfather had similar symptoms for 10 years; 3 days on the H. Pylori treatment and they all went away, 3 weeks after he said he never felt better.

Don't know if this will help any of you, but this is my story. For about a year or more I suffered with intermintent (sp) pain in my abdominal and chest area (not always the same place). I was told I had ovarian cysts, GERD, etc. But periodically the pain would be in my chest area (referred pain or heart burn, in hind sight, is what I think from inflamed intestine) and this would make me very nervous, fearing that I might have a heart attack. Finally, one time the pain was so bad in my chest area I went to ER and was admitted to cardio unit and had all the stress tests, etc. My heart was fine. ER Doc said have your galbladder checked, did that (was not that). Finally, I was tired of getting no results and kind of gave up. About six months later I was having really bad pain on right side, nearly bent over, wasn't going to do anything about it, but talking to a friend who happened to be a Paramedic and said had heard if you have trouble standing up from sitting position, could possibly be appendics about to rupture. Sure enough when I sat down I had severe pain getting up. I decided to take myself to prompt care. They did some blood test, but were not sure. Sent me to ER, Er Doc was not convinced from palpatation and blood test it was appendicitis, but decided to do a CT scan. Bam, sure enough when they decided to look exactly at my appendicitis it was swollen about 4X normal and heading towards rupture (thankfully it did not). I had it removed and none of the above symptoms since. My doctors won't say that I had chronic appendicitis, but I am convinced that is what it was with periodic inflamation causing my symptoms. Three years later all is still fine. As I understand it, chronic appendicitis is not understood or easily diagnosed and many doctors don't even acknowledge it, but I am convinced that was what I had. I am pain free. Good luck to all of you and don't stop looking for an answer to your problems (but maybe find a Doc that would consider chronic appendicitis).

Oh wow, how great that makes me feel that someone has experienced something almost exactly the same as me!!! I found this forum thing just over a week ago, and have posted so many things in different sections (about all my stupid symptoms!!!)...I have had everything from the appendicitis sort of pain, upper right pain (under my ribs -but not too severe pain, just knawing and uncomfortable), vertigo (still having this), headspins, low IgA, symptoms of Celiac disease (allergy to wheat - but the doctors said i didnt have it), etc... However, it all started with that pain in my lower right side (where the appendix is). I have had tests galore (including ultra sounds, CT scan, endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood/urine tests, etc.). From the moment I heard of chronic appendicitis, I thought it might have been that, but the doctors didnt think so...about 3 years ago (when I was 15/16), I had around 3-4 acute episodes of abdominal cramping (severe, constant and all day), vomiting about every 20 minutes (or more often), and then the next day I would have a specific pain in my appendix area where it would hurt to stand, lift my right leg (i.e. to walk up stairs, put on trousers, etc.), and this would last a few days. It has never properly gone away - sometimes if I strain or sneeze, etc I can feel it again. I have, a couple of times last year, had pain in my chest when I breathe, etc when I have had abdominal pain - not sure if it is related to the abdominal pain, but it sure was uncomfortable...felt like I couldnt take a full breath and it was shallow and faster than normal...Do you think all this could be chronic appendicitis? Even though they didnt see anything in the CT scan, colonoscopy, etc.? I only went to the doctor about it a year after I had the acute episodes of pain...and they couldnt really do anything I suppose, as it was then only minor pain and only every now and then - I just wanted to make sure everything was ok...I had a few tests then gave up, then about a year later, I went back to the doctor for more tests, because of the right upper pain (under my ribs)...so now I am just trying to find out why I have had all these symptoms, just to know what is going on, and to try and fix the vertigo, fatigue, tiredness, headspins, etc. (those are the things that are most annoying).
Thanks for any help you can give me...I just want to know whats going on and am sick of all these tests coming back clear when I dont feel ok! And sorry about the long story!!! I just thought that I'd let you know everything!
