Default Tips for Angular cheilitis

Angular cheilitis manifests in the form of lip corner sores that make it painful to open the mouth to eat, speak or laugh. This problem is caused by the infection of the lips by a fungal bacteria. Drinking chilled liquids will numb your mouth and take away the discomfort momentarily. Soft, cold foods that do not irritate any open sores are highly recommended for such lesions. If you wear dentures or braces, you may want to get them refitted, as ill-fitting dentures or braces are a primary cause of these ulcers. You should also take a break from wearing them if they are the cause of the problem. You should rinse your mouth with dilute hydrogen peroxide for sanitizing. Alternately, you can also use a solution of one tablespoon baking soda in a glass of water for the same purpose. You must avoid sugar, which generally aggravates discomfort.

Default Re: Tips for Angular cheilitis

It may sound a bit odd, but when my angular cheilitis flares up, I dab a very small amount of athlete's foot cream on it before I go bed (just after I have brushed my teeth). I repeat this in the morning after I have showered. If I do this twice a day like this for a few days, it clears up. The area stings slightly for about five minutes after applying the cream. One thing I found really aggrevates angular cheilitis is toothpaste. I switched to Squiggle, which does not contain sodium laurel sulphate, and it makes a huge difference.
