To whom it may concern..or whom may be able to help!!!
I am at my wits end with chronic canker sores. I have tried mouthwashes, pure salt, medication, numbing agents etc. Nothing works. I get one by a bump or abrasion and then I am guaranteed five more will pop up in a few days. I have scars in my mouth from multiple canker sores. Right now I have two HUGE sores left (have had total of 8 at the same time for the last 6 weeks). These last two will last another two weeks. I cannot eat, sleep, or talk. No one can help or knows anything about it. PLEASE tell me what this is... I get it every month. I obviously have stress in my life but I am a happy person (except when these things are visiting Do I have some rare disease? I have never met anyone who gets these the way I do. I even got them on the back of my throat this time. Please help! Sincerely, tired momma |

I had a friend who got them whenever he was around cats for a long period of time (he is allergic to cat dander, and lived in the same house with one on a couple of occasions)
I remember this because he would have many many at a time during this if it is not that, perhaps you have developed an allergy to something that you are around everyday, pets, chemicals, etc.. -K |

My son has behcet's disease and gets apthous stomatits all the time when he has flare ups. He is now in remission, but our alternative medicine physician recommended liquid folic acid. When we used this his sores healed in 24-48 hours. It is a godsend.

Thanks so much for your responses. I will give the folicacid a shot. You just apply it right on the sores?

If you can get some from a pharmacist, try putting "chunk alum" on the canker sores. I get them too and this is the only thing that works for mine. It burns, but it's worth it...it drys the tissue up and they go away pretty fast (a couple days). Apply it frequently. My mother eats yogurt - a lot of it - when she gets them...it's the "acidopholis" in it that is therapeutic.

I presume that a "canker sore" is the American version of an aphatous mouth ulcer.
Folic acid and other B-vitamin deficiencies can do it. Have you had any trouble with the bowels at all? Do you tend to be prone to infections? have you seen your dentist? |

I Get Those 2, At Least A Couple Of Them In My Mouth Everymonth. Very Painful And Irritating. It Really Sucks When I Get It Near My Tonsil Area/top Roof In The Back Of My Mouth, It Makes Eating Very Difficult For A Couple Of Long Long Days. I Not Sure Why I Get Them, But I Know That I Always Had Them When I Was A Kid Too. I Guess Its My Genes Because My Father Used 2 Get Alot Too.

For two years apthous ulcers erupted in my mouth and along the inside of my cheeks and tongue with severe swelling, dry mouth and extreme pain. My dentist didn't knnow what it was (he attributed it to aging, I am 70), my internist ran tests and gave me some medicine to try that didn't work (he attributed it to my diabetes), my gastroenterologist siad he had no idea what it was, but he treated it with very expensive magic mouth wash that only numbed the pain temporarily, so finally I went to an EENT surgeon who took one look and said it was a Herpes Viral Infection similar to chicken pox that is caused by a depressed immune system. He prescribed Acyclovir 800mg three times a day and the ulcers are finally lessening, my dry mouth and pain is gone, and I can eat and talk without pain again. There is no cure for this disease but it CAN be treated.

What A Coincidence, I Went To See My Doctor In The Past Regarding About Always Getting Canker Sores & He Also Prescribed Me Something Similar To Acyclovir Stating That I Have Some Type Herpes Viral As Well. I Was Also Prescribed A Lidocaine Mouthwash Which I Use Sometimes. It Mainly Numbs My Mouth Only. It Helps A Bit. With The Medication Part, I Never Took Them Though. As Of Right Now I Have 1 Canker Sore On The Left Side Of My Cheek, It Does Not Bother As Much As The Others I Get On The Inside Of My Lip, Roof Of My Tonsil Area, And Under And Around The Tongue Area. I M 25 Year Old Male, But As Far Back As I Could Remember As A Child I Used To Only Get 1 Canker Sore EVERY SO OFTEN, Then When I Reached The Middle Of My Teen Age Year It Has Doubled, Now A Days I Would Get 3 To 4 Big Ones With Tiny Ones Surrounding Them. I Would Have These For As Long As 2 To 3 Weeks Sometimes. It Would Really Hurt Especially When I Would Brush My Teeth.
