Testing for reflux

What tests diagnose reflux? Why are my doctors treating me without knowing for sure if I have it?

Symptoms related to reflux:
Tightness in chest/throat area
Sore throats (Sometimes whole throat, sometimes one sided)
Clearing of throat (constant)

I don't get heartburn and many of the other symptoms though. Reflux seems kind of far fetched to me. I've never had a problem with food either.

When my ENT did the scope through my nose (a camera thing), he said my voicebox was a little swollen.

I'm currently taking 20mg of nexium daily.

My doctor gave me reflux meds while testing for other conditions because giving the meds is simple, and more pleasant than many of the tests, and reflux is common. If the meds were to work, it would eliminate the need for some testing. I had a 24-hour Ph test for reflux--not a pleasant test, but not as unpleasant as it might sound. It showed that I do NOT have reflux. I have now been diagnosed with a nutcracker esophagus, which is under good control with medication. Good luck.
