I am 34 years old and I suffer from hypothyroidism. After 5 years of being misdiagnosed, I have finally found a wonderful doctor that cares and is starting everything from scratch. 6 months ago I was taking 225 mcg of synthroid a day for my condition. Now she is starting me from scratch at 50mcg per day and is testing me every 6 weeks. Yes, I have all the symptoms that everyone else has, even though they suck... you get used to them after awhile.

Anyways, my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant now for over a year. I have been pregnant before, twice actually in the last 6 years. I aborted both pregnancies. Now, no matter what I do I cannot get pregnant. He already has 3 children, so I am assuming he is fine. Is it my thyroid or is it something else?

Well, hypothyroidism can definitely cause infertility. The infertility specialists know that hypothyroid patients have the best chance of getting pregnant if they keep their TSH down around 1.

I'm not sure why your doctor has reduced your dose so drastically. 50 mcg is a pretty small dose. You might also want to look into Armour thyroid - an "old-fashioned" thyroid pill made from pigs thyroids that contains ALL the things a thyroid contains, rather than just T4. It works much better for many of us (but it can be a job to find a doc who prescribes it. Check out www.stopthethyroidmadness.com for more info).
