I am 14 and have been suffering severe stomach pains for the past year. I have been to the doctor around 10 times for this, and sent to a specialist twice. After this I was diagnosed with IBS, and am on several pills a day for this including bentyl and levsin. For two months I was pain free, able to do sports and be a teen and go out with my friends, ect. The past month everything has started to rebound. Every time I finish eating it gets horrible. I was even in the hospital several weeks ago because I was laying on my bathroom floor at 4:00am screaming and crying.
We contacted my doctor and he said to move up to tablets, and I did. There has been no change.... it has actually started to get worse in some ways.

Has anybody had a problem simular to this?

I'm so sorry to hear about your stomach pain!! Have you been to an allergist and been tested for food allergies? The fact that you have pain after eating might indicate an allergy. If you can't get to a doctor, there are allergy websites that will give you an elimination diet to try. You could try it for a week maybe, see if it helps. Don't do it longer than a week without a doctor, though, OK?

Also, I understand that there "abdominal migraines", just like migraine headaches, that are triggered by certain things like foods or stress. You can avoid the things that trigger them and also take medications for them.
Please talk to your doctor and your parents about these two things.

My son had serious digestive problems for years, went to the pediatric gastroenterologist (for years!) and was also diagnosed with IBS. Turns out he was allergic to milk and wheat. Now he's fine! So don't stop looking for answers until you feel better! Good luck and be healthy!

Celiac Disease is usually misdiagnosed as IBS, it happens quite often.

Ya, especially considering the age you're at is when it kicks in. I was also 13 when it started and I actually started getting worried when it was still going at 14. The doctors can be very stubborn about these food allergies and intolerences, especially since your body is changing everywhere they are reluctant to take any of those changes seriously at first.

Try to study this common issue of food intolerence and see if you can get your parents to support you with a new diet or in trying to get the doctors to specifically look for it (blood serum, endoscopy).

If you're sensitive to gluten or corn, there's a good chance your body is busy fighting the pills your doctor is giving you, and its just adding uneccessary stress to your symptoms. With your age you don't need new crazy chemicals that make you feel worse, you need to figure out the trigger and get rid of it.

I think if you're determined to find the cause, you can probably avoid what a lot of us went through in the years following onset :)

Don't be discouraged if you have to back off the sports and the active lifestyle for a few months or even up to a year. With IBS and diarrhea, rest is very important as no matter how much you eat, your body is probably overall running low on fuel. Even if you find the cause of your irritation, it can still take a year of completely avoiding it to be back to normal. Then again, the good news is normal can still be a very good possibility ;)

I have to agree with The_One.

My sister had stomach pains for the longest time and no specialist was able to diagnose her. Then one day by chance she consulted a nutritionist and with that she figured out the she could not eat products containing Gluten.

After cutting out the gluten from her diet she hasn't had the pains again except for when she eats Gluten products my mistake.

When the pains came they usually lasted 1-2 day and she could not move.

My son is almost 11 and going through the same things. He has not been hospitalized, but this is a DAILY thing for him. He is in agony with cramping all the time. He has to go to the bathroom a lot and kids are starting to notice. He is an outgoing, fun boy, but his personality is beginning to change due to this and his fear of hainv g to run to the bathroom. I wish I had answers for you because I need them as well. I can only imagine this is even more difficult for you being older. Let's keep researching and add to this thread and maybe one of us will come up with something. I wish you well. You sound very well grounded and intelligent and willing to look at your options.
